WEIRTON – Services will be held Thursday for Johan William Swanson, 80, who died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Weirton Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lumberport, W.Va., July 20, 1921, a son of the late Johan W. and Anna B. Robey Swanson.
He was employed at Weirton Steel Corp. as a caster operator until retirement. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Protestant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor M. Cox Swanson.
He is survived by three sons, Bill Swanson, Jay Swanson and Scott Swanson of Weirton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Charles Andrews will conduct the services at 11 a.m. at the Turley Funeral Home in New Cumberland. Burial will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee, W.Va.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today
