COLUMBIANA – Jewel C. Furney, 86, died at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana.

Jewel was born August 10, 1926 in Salem, the daughter of the late Wilmer and Mildred Martin Chamberlain.

She was a lifetime resident and had graduated from Columbiana High School in 1944. Jewel worked as a secretary in the banking industry and retired from the former Franklin Furniture of Columbiana.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana and was a longtime member of Columbiana Women’s Club.

Jewel enjoyed crafts, including knitting and needlework, and had belonged to a local hobby club. She enjoyed spending her time with her lady friends, affectionately known as the “Birthday Girls,” but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her husband Bill. As past president of AAA, Bill was able to take Jewel to many different countries. The couple loved traveling and also enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Charles W. “Bill” Furney. She was a loving aunt to her two nephews, Lee and Keith Chamberlain; three nieces, Dawn Brown, Marcy Chidester and Christine Vogel; and 16 great nieces and nephews.

A brother, Roger L. Chamberlain preceded her in death and three nephews, Bruce, Tom and Craig Chamberlain.

Funeral services will be held at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, with Southern Care Hospice Chaplain Elly Krokenberger officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
