Sharon Margaret (Tansey) Kernell , 66, of Vermilion, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Hospice of the Western Reserve, Westlake after a six-month illness.

Sharon was born April 28, 1946, in Lorain, and was a life long resident of Vermilion. Sharon worked as a seamstress for Norwalk Furniture and at South Shore Packing, Vermilion.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, and had been a 4-H advisor. She made jams, jellies and enjoyed baking and taking care of her family. She traveled extensively including trips to Ireland, Italy and Puerto Rico.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Kernell, Sheffield Village; daughter, Shellie Kernell, Vermilion; sisters, Sally (Jim) Emory, Orlando, Fla., Diane Socha, Amherst, Janet Tansey, Vermilion; brothers, Gerald Tansey, Howey in the Hills, Fla., Ronald Tansey, Huntington Beach, Calif., Frank Tansey, Smithfield, Ky., John (Deborah) Tansey, Elyria, Patrick Tansey, Vermilion; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ernestine (Sartor) Tansey; brother, Michael Tansey; and niece, Peggy Tansey.

The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. Prayers will be said in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion. Father Ron Brickner will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119, or St. Mary Catholic Church.
