Obituary – Mrs. Benton (Emma) Knowles

Mrs. Benton Knowles,
aged 44 years, of Church alley, died at her home Sunday morning, from hemorrhages of the stomach. Mrs. Knowles had been in bad health for some months past but has been able to be around until Friday, when she was compelled to take her bed. Her death was very sudden and unexpected by the family and friends, and a shock to the community. Mrs. Knowles was a member of the Mystic Circle and the Daughters of liberty and an ardent worker in the church and Sunday school of the First M. E. church, of which she was a member. She leaves besides a husband, one son, William, of this city, three sisters, Misses Fannie, Margaret and Tamar Eakin, of Cannon’s Mills and two brothers, Samuel and William Eakin, also of Cannon’s Mills. The funeral was from the First M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Dr. Clark Crawford officiated. Interment at Riverview.
