CALISTOGA, Calif. – CLARA JUANITA LOMBA, cherished wife and beloved mother, passed away as a result of heart failure on Dec. 24, 2005, at St. Helena Hospital. Her daughter, Josephine LaVonne Lomba, at her side.
She was the third of five children born in Wellsville to Morris McCuen and Ina Bennett McCuen, descendants of Barnett’s Ridge in Marietta, Ohio. Her parents and siblings are deceased. One of her brothers, Marvel McCuen, was a 33rd Degree Mason in East Liverpool and was involved with the Shriners at one time.
Juanita attended school in Wellsville, and later was graduated from the Ohio Valley Business College. After working briefly in Ohio, she and her husband moved to California where she worked at the La Mel School in San Francisco, a day clinic and special school founded by her two daughters. She retired in October 2005.
She attended St. Ann Catholic Church while in the East Liverpool area. In Calistoga, she attended Our Lacy of Perpetual Help Church and Maria Immaculata Chapel. She was a life member and sponsor of the Sharpsteen Museum.
The Lomba family has been supportive of the East Liverpool/Wellsville area through the years, and has had a special interest in the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association as well as the East Liverpool Fawcett Community Foundation, along with other area activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Josephine LaVonne Lomba and Mrs. Melaine Lomba Howard and her husband, Russell, all of the Calistoga area.
A rosary and memorial mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Calistoga, with Father Peter Talcott and Father Manuel Chavez officiating.
Friends are requested by the family to make donations in their mother’s name to the American Heart Association.
The Dawson Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
