John W. Paul

Paul Rites Set Monday

John W. Paul, 75, of 1052 St. Clair Ave., a former councilman at large here, died Thursday at 7 p.m. at Southside Hospital in Youngstown following a long illness. A lifelong resident, Mr. Paul was born June 29, 1903, a son of John Curry Paul and Grace Ashbaugh Paul. He had been active for years in the Republican Party, having served as a precinct committeeman and having been a candidate for mayor twice. From 1975-76, he was an agent for the Columbiana County commissioners. After retiring as a salesman from the Midway Oil Co. after 38 years service, he worked as a salesman for the Keys Co. and the former Mackall Motors. Mr. Paul served on the city fire department many years ago, resigning to take the post with Midway Oil. Mr. Paul was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, the East Liverpool Shrine Club, Elks Lodge 258, the Calcutta-Glenmoor Ruritan Club and Masonic Lodge 681 here. He also was a member of the Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland and a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Grace Plankinton Paul, whom he married Jan. 26, 1923, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ray E. (Ruth Esther) Diddle and four sisters, Miss Grace Paul, Mrs. Kathryn Morrow and Mrs. John (Mary) Eiferd, all of East Liverpool and Mrs. John (Esther) Rippeth of Cherry Hill, N.J.; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. H. Gene Toot, assisted by the Rev. Wesley Wilder. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon and night.
