Richard J. Phillips, 78

WELLSVILLE – Richard J. Phillips, 78 of Wellsville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, following a brief illness.

A son of the late Chester Edward Phillips and Della I. McElroy Phillips Payne, Rich was born in East Liverpool on May 12, 1935.

A machinist by trade, he worked at the former Macintosh-Hemphill Steel in Midland until its closure and he retired from the Bellofram Corporation in Newell.

Rich proudly served his country with the US Army and he was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Eagles in Wellsville.

A Methodist by faith, he graduated from Wellsville High School.

Surviving is his companion of 15 years, Carol Taylor; his son, Richard J. Phillips and wife Betty of Wellsville; his sister, Lana Perkins and husband Bill of Irondale; his brother, Gary Phillips and wife Fran of Leetonia; and his grandson, Joseph Phillips.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date and private burial will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wellsville.

The Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester has been entrusted with these arrangements.
