Orrin W. Van Ness, 97, of Clyde, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, in Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor.

Mr. Van Ness was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Hessville, Ohio, to the now deceased Emmitt and Elizabeth (Spieldenner) Van Ness. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde VFW and American Legion and Eagles.

Orrin served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II.

On June 3, 1940, he married Leona Keegan. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1981.

Surviving are a son, Daniel Van Ness, of Clyde; a daughter, Sandra Marshall, of Bellevue; two granddaughters, Sonia Ruiz and Kim Marshall; and three great grandchildren. His brother, Ken Van Ness survives in Sandusky.

Orrin was preceded in death by his siblings, Lou Spieldenner, Jim Van Ness, Roy Van Ness, Earl Van Ness, Alberta Hotz, Mary Rufty, Midge Waldella, Elizabeth Nieset and Ethel Young.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. T, where the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14. Burial with be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens with military honors provided by Clyde VFW and the American Legion.
