Dorothy Mae Llewellyn VanDyke of Wellsburg WV entered peacefully into eternal life with her Lord on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Dorothy was born September 19, 1929 to Charles and Essie Llewellyn of Wellsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years Paul VanDyke, her brother Charles (Bud) Llewellyn, and four sisters, Charlotte Jackson, Virginia Jones and Mary Francis Snedeker and Cora Wohnhas.
She is survived by a special niece who was raised with her, Carol Floyd of Follansbee. Dorothy was the loving mother of two sons and two daughters, Dr. Paul VanDyke, Jr. and his wife Marla, of Vienna, WV, Mike VanDyke and his wife Karen, Joyce Rea and her husband Chip, and Jane Utz and her husband Don, all of Follansbee, WV. Dorothy was loved dearly by her nine grandchildren—Ashley (Chris) VanDyke Altman, Dr. Bradley (Lindsey) VanDyke, Dan (Cienna) VanDyke, Chip Rea, Brian (Bethany) Rea, Dana VanDyke, Derek (RaeAnn) VanDyke, Lindsey Utz and Donnie (Morgan) Utz. She was also blessed with 12 great grandchildren.
Dorothy worked as a secretary at Erskine Glass Company for a brief time before becoming a full time mother and devoted minister’s wife. As her children grew she went back to work as a secretary at Brooke High School until her retirement. During her life, she shared her talents in the Martin’s Ferry, Follansbee, Wellsburg, and Brooke Hills Free Methodist Churches for God’s glory; serving as a kindergarten Sunday School teacher, song leader, pianist, steward, and most importantly as a Christian role model to all who met her. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family, spending time playing with her grandchildren, relaxing at the beach, making quilts and visiting with neighbors, friends and family on her porch swing. She never allowed anyone to visit without serving them a delicious meal or a mouth watering dessert. In her final years as Alzheimer’s settled in, she retired to Ann’s Country Retreat where she was cared for with love.
Dorothy devoted her life to her family and God. She will always be remembered as a kind, caring, nurturing Christian woman who exemplified Christ in every aspect of her life.
Friends will be received at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles Street Wellsburg, WV on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 5 pm to 8 pm, and again Thursday November 29, 2012 from 11 until the time of service at noon, with Rev.
