Arthur R. Veleba, age 74, of Sandusky, died Saturday night, Sept. 15, 2012, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with lymphoma.

He was born July 7, 1938, in Sandusky, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He graduated from Margaretta High School in 1957.

Following graduation, Arthur went to work in the automotive field. He started working for Doc Moyer’s gas station in Castalia then went to work for Rohrbacher’s Gulf in Sandusky. Following Rohrbachers, he worked for Sandusky Motor Sales, later becoming Mathews Ford. He worked for Mathews Ford for over 50 years, starting out in the parts department, becoming parts department manager, then he moved into the sales department and finally became the sales manager. He always loved the making and closing of a deal. Arthur received numerous awards from Ford Motor Co., in sales and services.

Arthur was actively involved with his daughters showing horses, in the 4-H level on up to the state and national level. He always loved traveling and winning many awards at the state and national horse shows. He loved to go to the county and state fairs, attending auctions for cars, livestock, and Amish products, spending time with his family and friends, and watching car races. He loved his dogs and horses. Arthur enjoyed working on his farm, riding his John Deere tractor, and mowing his grass, making sure his land looked great. He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Scherer) Veleba; two daughters, Susan (David) Michos, Cleveland and Cindy (Ted) Patrick, Sandusky; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, J.T., and Jennifer; two brothers, Paul (Ruth) Veleba and Marvin (Carolyn) Veleba; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Norma (Yeckley) Veleba; and brother, Lynn Gruhlke.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.18, at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept.19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. Sandusky, with Rev. Joe Steinbauer officiating. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
