Chester – Gladys M. Werkheiser, 93, of Chester, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Stone Pear Pavilion following a lengthy illness. A daughter of the late Harvey and Edith Allison, she was born on Dec. 8, 2010, in Barnesville, Ohio. Gladys, along with her late husband, Harvey Werkheiser, who died on June 2, 1984, owned and operated Werkheiser grocery store in the upper end of Chester. Earlier she had worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at the former TS&T Pottery. Gladys was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester, was valedictorian of her class at Chester High School, and was a member of the Chester Women’s Club. Besides her husband and parents, two brothers, Arthur and Floyd Harper, and one sister, Bea Harper, preceded her in death. One son, Larry (Peggy) Werkheiser of Buckhannon, W.Va.; two daughters, Edith Myett of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Bea (Mark) Cashdollar of Wellsville; and seven grandchildren, Sunday Marie and Margaret Werkheiser, Heather Maxwell, Lucas, Alec, Darcy Allison, and Destin Cashdollar, survive. Rev. Katrina Lewis of the church will conduct services on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, where the family will be present to receive friends Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. Interment will follow at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Georgetown.
