Services were held Tuesday for Wilma Louise Wharton, 70, of New Cumberland, who died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at the Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, March 14, 1928, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Mildred I Clegg Sams
She was a member of the Church of Christ of New Cumberland and Oakland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Weirton Womans Bowling Association.
She is survived by her husband, Bartlett J. Wharton Sr.; two sons, Robert Wharton and Bartlett J. Wharton Jr. of Weirton; seven daughters, Linda Waide, Cathy Krnaich and Donna Evano Wharton of Weirton, Susan Ireland Jr., Rebecca Pope and Denise Decker of New Cumberland, and Karen Wearsch of Rockford, Illinois; two sisters, Janet Nichols of Williamstown, West Virginia, and Priscilla Sands of Vienna, West Virginia; three brothers, Harry Sams of Bens Run, West Virginia, Larry Sams and William Sams of Parkersburg, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Robert and Kenneth Sams; two sisters, Mabel and Lucille Sams; and a grandson.
The Reverend Richard B. Brewer conducted services at the Church of Christ. Burial was in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens of Follansbee, West Virginia.
