Sandusky native Charles J. “Chic” Acierto passed away Jan. 22, 2013, in Mesa, Ariz., following a battle with cancer.

Acierto was a 1953 Sandusky High School graduate who earned second-team All-Ohio honors in football on defense and was selected for the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Marty Waterfield; also of Sandusky, daughters Lori and Tracey, two grandchildren, Bryan and Lindsay Conner, and a great-granddaughter, Ava.

After 40 years at Ameron Pipe Co., he retired as plant superintendent, where he was so loved and respected, official closed the entire plant to allow employees to attend his memorial.

He loved dogs so much he became an obedience instructor and judge, and also served as treasurer of the Australian Shepherd Club of America for nearly 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Acierto, of Sandusky.

A memorial Mass for Chic will take place at noon, May 3, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky.
