Shocking Tragedy Occurs at North Parkersburg-Man’s Injuries Probably Fatal

Parkersburg, W. Va., July 10,– (1911)(Special)-A shocking tragedy occurred near here in North Parkersburg, a suburb of this city, at 10 o’clock this morning, when W. H. Allen, who had been separated from his wife for a month, returned here from Zanesville, O., and shot his 2-year-old daughter while she lay in her cart on the front of a neighbor’s porch, where it had been taken by its grandmother, Mrs. Sheridan Prangle.

After he shot the child he ran about a half mile to Beechwood Heights and going to the rear of I. H. Marsh’s place, he shot himself in the breast, emptying the other barrel of the shotgun with which he had killed the child. He learned that the police were on his trail and he shot himself. He was rushed to the City hospital in the patrol wagon, but he cannot live but a short time.
