James R. Bell

WHEELING-James R. Bell went to be home with his Lord and Savior on September 5th. He passed peacefully from this life after being surrounded by his family and friends for several weeks. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on October 27th, 1936. He was the son of the late Isabel (Parsons) and Harry Bell.

On July 24, 1956 he married his beloved wife Rose (Hall). They were married for 56 years. Jim worked at Wheeling Downs and later at Waterford Park for over 40 years.

Jim enjoyed sports; he was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steeler and West Virginia Mountaineer fan. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Rose in addition to his children Rosemary Williams (Bernie), James Bell Jr. (Cindy) and Cristal Vincent (Mark). He is also survived by Ciara Williams, Laura Craig and Jessica O’Daniel who are his grandchildren. Jim has several surviving brothers and sisters who are: Nancy Todd, Isabel George (Butch), Bill Bell, David Bell, Harry Bell (Lori), Tom Bell and Nancy Bell. Jim is also survived by several great-grandchildren who are: Samantha, Dalton, Colt and Kingsley along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his grandson Shawn Bell and his brother Robert (Bob) Bell.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation for Jim which will be held at Nixon’s funeral home in Newell on Sunday, September 9th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be on Monday September 10th at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Mark Vincent will be performing the ceremony. Internment will follow at Shadow Lawn Cemetery in Newell.
