ROBERT N. FINNEY, 63
GARDEN GROVE, Calif – of Garden Grove, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at the home of his father-in-law, Lawrence Smoot of Finley Road, Chester, following a brief illness.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio, Aug. 17, 1933, a son of the late Lewis C. and Velda Harmon Finney.
He grew up in Battle Creek, Mich., before moving to California 30 years ago. He was employed at Kaiser Permanente in Carson, Calif., and was a drug and alcohol counselor. He was a Protestant. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Veterans of Foreign War in Vista, Calif. He was a member of the U. S. Marine Corp. serving in the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of two Purple Heart medals.
Besides his father-in-law, he is survived by his wife, Opal Smoot Finney, whom he married Nov. 22, 1979; and a son Robert N. Finney II of Charleston, S.C.
The Rev James Dawes of the Chester First Christian Church will conduct services at 8 PM Thursday at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Military honors are being accorded by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM Thursday.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to any Alcoholics Anonymous organization.
