He was born on April 29, 1937, in Cleveland, a son of the late John and Grace Carroll Fitzgerald. A 1955 graduate of Cathedral Latin High School, he was a member of the football team and selected to First Team All Ohio his senior year. Bob would later be inducted into the Hall of Fame there. Until his retirement in 1992, he had been manager at Mobil Chemical Trucking, and had also been high school golf coach at Southern Local and East Palestine High Schools in recent years. A lay member of the Grievance Committee for the Columbiana County Bar Association, Bob was an athlete and sports fan for all time.

A member of Holy Trinity Parish, Bob had served on the Finance Committee, and was also a familiar face at many other area functions as a consummate community booster. He belonged to the East Liverpool Country Club at one time and enjoyed his friendships on and off the golf course.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne Fitzgerald, at home. The couple married April 29, 1961.

Bob is also survived by a daughter, Anne Fitzgerald, of East Liverpool; two sons, Robert C. Fitzgerald Jr., and his wife, Michelle, of Carmel, Ind., and Daniel B. A brother, Jack Fitzgerald and his companion, Lila, of Mentor, Ohio, also survives, along with a sister-in-law, Joan Stoner, of Canfield. In addition, he will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
