William “Bill” Franklin, 82

EAST LIVERPOOL – William “Bill” Franklin, 82, passed away at East Liverpool City Hospital on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, after a brief illness.

Bill was born in Wellsville, on Nov. 12, 1932, to the late Joseph and Pearl McCaskill Franklin.

He retired from the former Crucible Steel in Midland, and attended Wellsville schools.

A Baptist by faith, he had been a trustee and an usher at First Baptist Church in Wellsville.

He proudly served his country with the US Army’s Co C 7th Regiment in Korea as a Mortar Gunner toward the end of the Korean Conflict.

Bill was a member of the former VFW Post 9285 in Wellsville and of the somewhat famous VFW Post 9285 Drill Team.

He loved to play softball and was a member of the Modern Times Softball team in Wellsville.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Phillip Reed Carter and Jason Mychael Franklin; his brothers, James and Robert Franklin; and his sisters, Dorothy, Margaret Ann, and Carolyn Franklin, Irene Funderburg, and Josephine Zanders.

Bill leaves his children, William Franklin Jr of Steubenville, Charles Franklin and wife Helen of Wellsville, Dwayne Franklin of Wellsville, Denise Carter of Chester, and Jeri Franklin of Louisville, Ky.; and his siblings, Donald Franklin of Wellsville, Raymond Franklin of Sacramento, Calif., and Barbara Jean Caffey of Youngstown.

Also left to mourn his loss are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In fulfilling his wishes, no services are planned and he is in the care of Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
