Rosa A. Gierich, 107, of Sandusky, died Friday evening, Feb. 8, 2013, in Great Lakes Transitional Care Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness.

She was born in 1905 in Germany, came to the United States in 1927 and had lived in Sandusky since. Rosa was employed for many years at Philco Corp. in Sandusky.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where she was the oldest member of the congregation.

She is survived by one daughter, Marion (the Rev. Lester) Dumer of Warsaw, Ill.; one son, Rudolph (Bette) Gierich Jr. of Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Gierich Sr. in 1991; one grandson, Jeffrey Dume; her parents, Andreas and Wilhelmina (Roos) Alber; eight brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, until a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Radio Fund.
