BABY ASPHYXIATED WHILE PARENTS SLEPT
Three Months Old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Green is Smothered
John James, the 3 months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Green, of Second street, Chester, was accidentally smothered to death sometime between 1 and 4:40 o’clock Christmas morning at Warren, Trumble county, Ohio. The remains arrived in East Liverpool yesterday afternoon, and were taken to the Green residence in Chester by Undertaker Rinehrt.
Mr. and Mrs. Green were visiting at Warren, and when they retired for the night the babe was place between them. About 1 o’clock Mrs. Green was awakened by the cries of the infant. She gave it nourishment, when it became quiet and finally returned to sleep. With a mother’s anxious care Mrs. Green awoke again at 4:30, and with the view of further nourishing her babe, took it tenderly in her arms and drew it to her breast. Then it was that she made the heart-rendering discovery. Her babe was dead. The only explanation that could be made was that the child has been accidentally asphyxiated. The parents had unconsciously drawn the bed covering over its head. A sad Christmas greeting. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today form the family residence.
