GEORGE KNOWLES, SR., a pioneer in the pottery industry, succumbed Monday morning at 12:15 o’clock, to infirmities attendant upon old age, at his residence, 903 Avondale street.
Mr. Knowles was 89 years of age, and was born in England, removing to the United States May 13, 1864. For twenty-one years he was manager of the Millington-Asbury Pottery company at Trenton, N. J. , and later built the Enterprise pottery in that city.
Following retirement from the manufacture of pottery, he engaged in importation of china and ball clays, being a pioneer in this work. Mr. Knowles residence in this city covered a period of twenty-five years, and he was head of the George Knowles & Sons Company, clay importers. He was a charter member of lodge No. 61, Knights of Pythias, of Trenton, N. J.
The survivors are two sons, Frank M. Knowles of Avondale sreet, this city and George H. Knowles Jr., of Trenton, N. J.
