E. L. “Lee” Mercer Jr., 58

Chester – E. L. “Lee” Mercer Jr., 58, died peacefully, at home, with his family at his side on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Born in East Liverpool on July 7, 1952, he was the son of Pearl Mercer of Mifflinburg, Pa., and the late Elmer L. Mercer Sr. Lee graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1970, and worked at the former Weirton Steel, retiring as a Side Trimmer Operater in the Tin Mill. He was a member of Northside Community Church and the Hancock County Oldtime Fair committee. He was especially interested in old tractors and had nearly completed restoring his old Oliver. Surviving at home is his wife, Karen Barger-Mercer; five sons, Kevin (Karen) Mercer of Youngstown, Kenneth (Christal) Mercer of Lowellville, Ohio, Dustin Mercer of Independence Township, Pa., Robert B. Heath, U.S. Navy and Michael Heath, U.S. Army; two sisters, Paula L. Bailey, of Columbiana, Ohio, and Carol J. (Sherwood) Keister of Mifflinburg, Pa. Four grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley Mercer, both of Youngstown, and Nicole and Katelyn Mercer, both of Wellsville, as well as a great-grandson Antonio, also survive. Pastor Larry Rose will conduct services at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, where friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Community Church and online condolences may be sent to the family at arnerfc@arnerfuneralchapel.com.
