Joseph B. Nemecek, 88, of New Brighton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his home.

Born June 24, 1924 in New Brighton, a son of the late John and Mary (Kusnir) Nemecek, Joe was a veteran of World War II serving with U.S. Navy in the Pacific, where he was a gunner’s mate on the USS Crouter. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #19, both of New Brighton. He retired as a supervisor at the former Townsend/Textron Industries, Fallston. Joe excelled in sports at New Brighton High School and Geneva College and was elected into both of their Sports Hall of Fame. His passion in life was his family and automobiles – fixing, buying and selling.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Nancy Ellen (Magee) Nemecek; three children, daughter Christine and husband Paul De Stefano, Silver Spring, MD, son Mark Nemecek, New Brighton, and son David and wife Jennifer Nemecek, Center Twp.; four grandchildren, Brian and Katherine De Stefano, and Grant and Nolan Nemecek, and many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vitus ‘Wade’ Nemecek and John Nemecek, and three sisters, Mary Nemecek, Rose Kolodziej and Velma Pasquale.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, http://www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery to provide military honors.
