EAST LIVERPOOL – Ida R. Newlin, of Main Street, Wellsville, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away at the age of 67 on Monday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2013 at East Liverpool City Hospital, with her children at her side.

She was born a daughter of the late Barton E. and Ruby V. Pelley Stewart on March 7, 1946, in East Liverpool. A lifetime area resident, Ida was a 1964 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Kent State University. In later years, while raising her family, Ida also attended nursing school.

Ida had worked as a dispatcher for the former Lynn Ambulance until its closing, and later had been a custodian at Westgate School. Until her illness, she had also worked in the mail room at The Review.

A longtime volunteer for various community projects, Ida had a servant’s heart and loved helping others. For many years, she assisted with the summer feeding program and was affectionately considered the “Jaycee Mom” for her contributions and support of that organization.

She leaves behind her daughter, Ruby A. Weymouth and her husband, Paul; two sons, Richard B. Newlin and his wife, Marcia, and John J. Newlin, and his wife, Vonda, all of East Liverpool.

There are seven grandchildren: Jeremy Newlin and his wife, Ashley, Hannah Newlin, Zachary Newlin, Noah Newlin, Daniel Weymouth, Joseph Weymouth and his wife, Adrienne, and Joshua Weymouth. A brother, James P. Stewart and his wife, Susan, survive as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nieces. Ida also leaves behind her loyal feline companion, Buddy.

Pastor Dale Sutton of the First United Methodist Church will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the 1st United Methodist Church.
