Obituary – Grover Cleveland Newman

Grover Cleveland Newman, 88, of Chester Route 8, died Tuesday night at 10:15 at home after a lingering illness.

Mr. Newman resided with a daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Myrtle) Sayre.

He was born in Barbour County, W. Va., March 16, 1885, a son of Richard A. & Arleva Triplett Newman. He had resided in the Chester area for 52 years, coming from Morgantown. He retired in 1947 from the former Edwin M. Knowles China Co.

In addition to Mrs. Sayre, he leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Harold (Eunice) Moore of East Liverpool, Mrs. Okey (Bernice) Leaisure and Mrs. Paul (Estle) Jordan, both of Chester; a son, Richard B. Newman of Newell; theree half brothers, William Armstrong of Belington, W. Va., Rube Armstrong and Swaze Armstrong, both of Chester; four half-sisters, Mrs. George (Alma) Tice of Hammondsville, Mrs. Bud (Martha) Pontius, Mrs. Alexander (Georgia) Compston and Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Rickey of Hudson, Ohio, 23 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Friday at 10:30 a. m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester by the Rev. T. Larry Davis of the Glendale Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.

Friends may call at the chapel Thursday afternoon and night.
