Jesse B. Oyster, 90

Steubenville – Jesse B. Oyster, 90, died early Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Acuity Hospital of Trinity Health System in Steubenville. Born on Nov. 25, 1919, in Chester, he was the son of the late William and Lucinda Oyster Sr. Jesse graduated from Wells High School before going to work at Weirton Steel, where he retired from work as a carpenter. He proudly served our country with the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chester, a charter member of the Chester VFW 6450, board member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau and the New Cumberland Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Oyster; a son, John Oyster; one brother, Robert Oyster; and a sister, Geraldine Reed. Survivors include a son, Jeff (Carolyn) Oyster, of Chester; one brother, William Oyster Jr.; grandchildren, Jeff (MaryJo), Jennifer (Tom), David, James, Nathan (Jenny), Nick (Michelle) and Josh; as well as great-grandchildren, Nick, Xandria, Christiana and Andrew. Rev. Matthew Camlin will officiate services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, where friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the West Virginia National Guard Burial Detail.
