JASPER, N.Y. — CARL H. PETRAS, 74, of Cty. Route #21 entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell following a courageous battle with cancer.
Carl was born July 15, 1931, in Toronto, Ohio, to Carl J. and Mary Herrick Petras. On July 12, 1958, in Athens, Ohio, he married Rita M. Nojonen.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had worked in research at the University of Rochester Laser Energetics Laboratory as an electronics design engineer. Carl was a memberof the Ohio University
Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Honorary Electricla Engineering Fraternity, member of the Knights of Columbus and Jenota CAtholic Slovak Women’t Association. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Hornell and was an avid defender of the Right to Life.
Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita Petras of Jasper; one son, Edward A. Petras of Missouri; one daughter, Charloeet E. (Greg) Gerber of Jasper; three grandchildren, Emily NIcole Gerbger of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Jessica ERin and Niklaus A. Gerber both of Jasper; and one sister, Cecilia Petras, and two brothers, Thomas and Michael Petras, all of Ohio.
Funeral and committal services were held at the convenience of the family, Burial in Jasper Cemetery.
