PETRIDES, Sam D., 100, of Steubenville, died Thursday December 30, 2010, at Villa Vista.
He was born August, 6, 1910, in Rhodes, Greece. He is the son of the late Demitrios Savvas and Tsambika Stavris Petrides, Sam is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cottis Petrides and one brother, Harry Petrides.
Sam was the co-owner and operator of the former Wheel Restaurant and owner of the former Sam’s Diner on Third St.
Surviving are two sons, James Petrides of Steubenville and Very Rev. Michael S. (Eleni) Petrides of Fla.; two daughters, Angela (Dr. Richard) Mahfood of Steubenville and Sandy (Charles) Cucuras of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete (Irene) Petrides of Steubenville and Manuel (Stacy) Petrides of N.Y.; one sister, Kostandina Sigambri of Rhodes, Greece; also many nieces and nephews.
Sam was a founding member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was past president and secretary of the parish council, taught Greek school for 27 years, was a member of the Ahepa, Pan Rhodian Society and F&AM Lodge 45.
Calling hours are Saturday January 1, 2011, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 300 S. Fourth St., from 9 a.m. until the time of services at noon, Fr. Nicholas Halkias. Burial in Union Cemetery.
