PERRY LENVILLE PORTER SR., nicknamed “Applesauce”, of New Cumberland, passed away Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Echo Manor Extended Care in Pickerington, Ohio following a brief illness.
He was born April 11, 1905 in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of he late Lelia (Gilbert) Porter and William M. Porter. Perry also has a stepmother, Sarah Alice (Ison) Porter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Charles E., Roy and Orville B. Porter all of Louisville, KY and also a younger sister, Levia who passed away as a teenager.
He became a member of the Colliers Way Church of Christ on October 24, 1982. He retired from National Steel Corporation in 1965 where he was employed as a Crane Spotter in the Service and Maintenance Depatment.
Children born to Perry and Mararet H. Porter were Perry L. Porter Jr. of Azusa, CA; William A. Porter of Lousiville; Ernestine B. Friera of Romney, WV; Carlos A. Porter of Gulf Breeze, FL; Barbara J. Howe of Warren, Ohio; Anita Williams of New Cumberland; Godfrey B. Porter of Newell; James M. Porter of New Cumberland; Judith D. Hennen of Middle Village, NY and Cynthia S. Skalican of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Perry was also the proud grandfather of thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-eight great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March, 8, 1999 with Reverend Larry Jackson of St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiating . Internment folowed a the Union Cemetery in New Manchester. Turley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
