WEIRTON, W.Va. – Michalene L. “Minnie” Rocchio, 88, of Weirton, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at the Weirton Medical Center, Weirton. She was a homemaker. She was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Weirton, a daughter of the late Domenic and Maria Mercurio Rotell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Domenic Rocchio, who died in 1988; one brother, Patsy Rotell; and four sisters, Rose Tedesco, Pasalina Pulice, Ann Hoover, and Connie Pate. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Weirton; and St. Paul Christian Mothers. “Minnie” was a great baker who was “famous” for her homemade pasta, salad dressing, and cookies. She had a very special passion of love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Angela Mazur and her husband, Raymond, of Weirton, and Mary Ann DiFonzo and her late husband, Robert, of Weirton; two sisters, Sue Szymanek, of Weirton, and Angela Mercurio, of LaMirada, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Robert (Rhonda) DiFonzo, Michele (Todd) Beach, Nathan (Julie) Mazur, Maria (Lonnie) Myers, Nicole (Joseph) Sauer, John (Jamey) DiFonzo, Salene Mazur, and Michalene (Adam) Mills; and 13 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Presley Funeral Home, 303 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton. Wake services will be Friday at 3 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Weirton, with the Rev. Tony Thurston officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery Mausoleum, Weirton.
