Chester
Mary J. Ross, 81, passed peacefully with family at her side on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the East Liverpool City Hospital.
Daughter of the late Samuel and Edith Lako, she was born in Chester on March 2, 1929.
A lifelong resident, Mary graduated from Chester High School in 1947 and pursued her nursing degree, graduating from the East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing in 1950, where she began work as a surgical nurse, quickly becoming one of the hospitals first head nurses.
Living her life sharing her faith and giving to others, before retiring from nursing after 22 years, Mary began teaching CCD classes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 1971, holding that position for 34 years. She began singing with the choir in 1946 and became the church organist in 1976.
Aside from her nursing and teaching jobs, Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and wife, losing her husband, Perry E. Ross on October 1, 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Bob) Jackson and their son Dominic, of Chester and Debbie (Jim) Mulhall and their children Karagan, Ross and Madison, of Morgantown; a sister, Connie Bangor, of East Liverpool and nieces and nephews MayAnn Hogue, Joyce White, Randall Bangor and Richard Bangor.
Rev. Father Eric Antwi will preside for a Mass of Christian Burial at 2p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by burial in Locust Hill Cemetery.
