Rev. Harry Robert “Rob” Rowe, 71
EAST LIVERPOOL – Rev. Harry Robert “Rob” Rowe, longtime pastor, coach and counselor, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Caprice Health Care Center in North Lima. Rev. Rowe, who resided on Y&O Road in East Liverpool, was 71.
He was born in Steubenville on June 1, 1943, a son of the late Harry R. and Margaret Gibb Rowe. A 1961 graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, he furthered his education at Kentucky Christian College, graduating in 1966.
Rev. Rowe began as a teacher with Hancock County Schools, and served as a transportation operator for 33 years, primarily driving the school bus in the Hancock County school district. He remained involved in area schools as a football and wrestling coach for many years, most notably at Wintersville, Indian Creek and Sandy Valley High Schools.
His career as a pastor spanned 53 years, until his retirement earlier this year. He began as a student minister in Louisa, Ky., and later became the Senior Minister for various churches, including New Manchester (W.Va.) Christian Church, Beverly Hills Church of Christ in Huntington, W.Va., Laughlintown (Pa.) Christian Church, and Wintersville (Ohio) Church of Christ. Until his illness, he was pastoring the New Somerset Christian Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #22 F & AM in New Cumberland, W.Va.
His wife, Sharon Gire Justice Rowe, survives at home. They had been married for 50 years on Friday, June 6, 2014.
Three sons also survive: Harry Philip Rowe and his wife, Julie, of East Liverpool; Robert Aaron Rowe and his wife, Renae, of Weirton; and Timothy Lee Rowe of Las Vegas, Nev. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Rob, Cathy, Laura, Astoria, Atreyu and Arala.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Nancy Rowe, and a brother, Dave Rowe.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, with son Harry “Phil” Rowe providing the spoken message. Masonic services will take place at the funeral on Saturday.
