WEIRTON – Bernard Smurda, age 69, of Weirton, W.Va. died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1936 in Toronto, Ohio, a son of the late George and Helen (Raha) Smurda.

Bernard retired with 36 years of service from the Weirton Steel Machine Shop where he worked as a Repairman Helper.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church; Weirton Steel 25-Year Club; Weirton Steel Bowling League; and Woodview. Bernard enjoyed golfing in the summer and bowling in the winter.

He served his country in the U.S. Army.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy (Kasimakis) Smurda, whom he married Oct. 14, 1961; two daughters, Kristine “Krissy” Smurda of Weirton and Nancy Kay Smurda of Wheeling, W.Va.; one brother, Edward Smurda and his wife Sharon of Follansbee, W.Va.; and one grandson, Zeke Ebright of Wheeling.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
