EAST LIVERPOOL — SHIRLEY J. SPARKS, 74, of Carolina Avenue, East Liverpool, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in East Liverpool, March 13, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Helen Diddle Holland. She was a 1956 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a member of the choir.
A lifelong resident of East Liverpool, she was a member of the First Free Methodist Church where she served as treasurer, secretary, a choir member, and Sunday school teacher. She also was active in the church’s Christian Youth Crusade at one time.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Sparks, at home. The couple married May 8, 1959.
There is a daughter, Lisa A. Sparks of Chester; a son, Steven T. Sparks of Wichita, Kan.; and a sister Vivian Richmond of Chester.
Other survivors include several nieces and nephews and two brothers-in-law, James W. Sparks, and his wife Mary Ellen, of Brentwood, Tenn., and John E. Sparks, and his companion Debi, of Calabash, N.C.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Nentwick Care Center and DCI Clinic for their wonderful and compassionate care.
Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6-8 p.m.. The Rev. Steve Forsythe will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
