Civil War Veteran Succumbs From Infirmities of Age.
HENRY W. THOMPSON, aged 78, Civil War veteran and grandfather of Top Sergeant Kenneth Thompson, the first East Liverpool soldier killed in France, died at 12 o’clock today of the infirmities of age at his home, 341 West Fourth street. Henry Thompson served for two years in various battles of the Civil war as a member of Company L, 67th Pennsylvania volunteer infantry.
Henry W. Thompson was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England (June 11, 1841), and was brought by his parents to East Liverpool when he was six years of age. He was a pioneer pottery worker and was employed the greater part of his life in the D. E. McNicol plant.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Jane Thompson; one son, Harry R. Thompson of East Liverpool
Funeral services will be conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock under the direction of the General Lyon post No. 44, G.A. R. , of which the dead veteran is a member. Rev. J. F. Dimit, pastor of the First Methodist Protestant church, to which Mr. Thompson belonged, will officiate. The body may be viewed at the home Sunday evening from 7 to 10 o’clock.
