Dr. Kenneth W. Turner, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL Dr. Kenneth Wayne “K.W.” Turner, 85, of East Liverpool died at 6:47 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at East Liverpool City Hospital.

Born May 10, 1923, in Newell, a son of the late Dr. Arthur L. and Georgia Eckleberry Turner, he was a U.S. Navy Medical Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and European Theaters.

A graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga., he attended Muskingum College and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He served his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh from 1952 to 1953 where he was named “Intern of the Year.” In 1957, he completed his residency at Presbyterian Hospital Eye and Ear and Children’s General Practice and Anesthesiology.

He conducted a private medical practice in East Liverpool from 1953 to 1975 and joined the East Liverpool City Hospital Medical Staff in 1953, where he was the medical staff president in 1988. He was chief of the Anesthesia Department at City Hospital until his retirement in 1991, a member of its Board of Trustees from 1987 to 1988 and served on the Honorary Staff until his death.

Active in the early Jaycee movement, he was past president of the East Liverpool Jaycees. He was a member of the American, Ohio and Columbiana County medical associations and served as team physician for East Liverpool Potter football, basketball and other sports teams from 1953 to the late 1960s. At one time, he was a member of the East Liverpool Riddle Lodge No. 315 of the Free and Accepted Masons, a 32nd degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, and the York Rite. He was also a member of the Shrine Club.

An avid boater, he was an original member of the Holiday Yacht Club.

Surviving is his wife, Margaret Marie “Peggy” Stephenson Turner, whom he married Dec. 21, 1947.

He is also survived by two daughters, Bridgette Turner and her husband, Steve Puican, of Columbus, Ohio; and Tammie McIntosh and her husband, Bart, of Newell; along with one son Kim W. Turner and his wife Sandy of San Diego.

There are two granddaughters, Lauren McIntosh and Ariana Turner.

Also surviving is a brother, Dr. Arthur A. Turner and his wife, Ruth, of East Liverpool, and a dear stepmother, Helen Turner of Wilmington, N.C.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 1-5 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Interment is to be in Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group along with the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
