Roy M. Van Buskirk, 85, of Dauphin County, formerly of Pittsburgh and Freedom, passed away on August 13, 2012, at the Homeland Center in Harrisburg.
Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Roy L. and Rose Mooney Van Buskirk. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during World War II in both the Philippines and Japan. A Master Plumber by trade, Roy retired from the Department of Public Works for the City of Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Bede and St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Churches. Roy was especially fond of sports, hunting, target shooting, and all things outdoors.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of more than 47 years, Frances Strouse Van Buskirk. He is survived by his five children: Michael (Pittsburgh), Beth, wife of Patrick Panuska (Katy, TX), Leslie (New York, NY), Mark, husband of Bobbie (Harrisburg, PA), and Paul, husband of Sonia (Metuchen, NJ). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kevin, Shannon, Tatiana, Elizabeth, Damian and Ethan.
A private service and inurnment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, will be held for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that you consider contributions in Roy’s memory to an organization of your choosing, such as the USO, Wounded Warriors Project, or a local animal shelter.
